The Frank Johnson Medal Awards night is all about the recognition and celebration for Players, Match officials, Coaches, Volunteer and Supporters who have participated in the 2023 Season, Congratulations to all the nominees for each of the awards, all of you have deserved your nomination


NRL NT would like to Thank all our guests in  particular the Honourable Kate Worden MLA, Minister for Sport, Mitch Hardy General Manager Sport, Recreation & Strategic Infrastructure and ARLC NT Chairman Steve Shervill.

Chief Minister Natasha Fyles and Luke Gosling, Member for Solomon, Both sent their apologises.

 

We would also like to acknowledge the life members who were represented by Gaynor Maggs, Kevin Page, John Adams with apologies from Stem Edwards, Barry Bamford and Robert Dowie.

 

And a warm Welcome to Alan Tongue, former Canberra Raider Captain, 200 Gamer and current NRL Staff member of the year based on his amazing commitment to people and the game of rugby league.

To our evolving and amazing team at NRL NT, Sheron McDougall, Duncan, Darren, Mikayla, Piper, Isobel and our assistant GDO’s Trey, Lucy, Gloriana and Chloe, I thank you all and I am excited with what we will achieve as a TEAM with the responsibility we have as the Governing Body for rugby league in the Northern Territory.


To our referees/match officials, club presidents, committees, coaches, sports trainers and all the valued volunteers, I sincerely thank you for your contribution in supporting our game and giving so many other people the opportunity to participate in the greatest game for all.


This season we built a schedule of themed rounds focussed on generating more excitement and tailored to allow our game to demonstrate positive engaging messaging across the broader community.

Most importantly this was only achieved through the commitment and support of our clubs to create fun, safe and inclusive environments for all participants and volunteers.

Darwin City vs Southern Heat to Showcase NT Pathway Talent

The 2026 NRL NT Territory Junior Championships delivered an outstanding showcase of emerging rugby league talent, with the Northern Territory’s best Under 16 players taking centre stage at TRL Stadium, Darwin. Across a full day of high-quality competition, teams representing Darwin City, Southern Heat, Katherine and Gove United competed with intensity, skill and pride, highlighting the continued growth and strength of rugby league pathways across the Territory. The boys competition opened with a dominant performance from Gove United, setting the tone early with a 30–4 victory over Darwin City. Southern Heat responded strongly in Game 3, defeating Darwin City 16–8 in a disciplined and physical contest. In the girls division, Southern Heat showcased their class with a 16–0 win over Darwin City in Game 2, underlining the continued rise in female participation and performance standards across the Northern Territory. ๏ปฟ

As a key component of the NRL NT Pathways system, the RISE Program provides aspiring young players with access to a high-quality, structured development environment focused on building strong foundations both on and off the field. NRL NT, in partnership with the NRL Dolphins and valued partner Darwin Airport Resort, is proud to deliver an exclusive Dolphins Coaching Masterclass as part of the 2026 NRL Darwin match week. Taking place on Friday 17 April from 7:30am to 8:30am at Darwin Airport Resort, this free session provides a unique opportunity for coaches, players, volunteers and community leaders to gain direct insights from one of the NRL’s high-performance environments. Learn from the Elite Facilitated by the NRL Dolphins coaching staff, the masterclass will explore the key principles that underpin success at the highest level of rugby league, with a strong focus on practical application within community settings.
