2022 Combined Affiliated States Under 18 Schoolboys Rugby League Academy

2022 Combined Affiliated States U18s Schoolboys Rugby League Academy.


This year in conjunction with the NRL National Pathways Team we will be assembling a 34-man U/18s Schoolboys Squad from players within Victoria, Northern Territory, Western Australia, and South Australia to take part in a four-day Academy Program. Players will be put through fitness and strength testing, as well as receiving coaching by Academy Coaches from Victoria, Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia.

NRL NT is proud to announce the following six players have been selected from the territory to participate in this exciting new opportunity, we wish them all the very best and look forward to working closely with them as  part of their preparation.

This Academy Program will take place in Perth and will conclude with a match that will be played as the Curtain Raiser to State of Origin 2 Match at the Optus Stadium, Perth.


Logistics

  • Camp Assembles - Thursday 23rd June 2022, Mercure Perth
  • Game Day - Sunday, 26th June 2022, Optus Stadium, Perth
  • Camp Departs - Monday, 27th June 2022, Depart


Accommodation, flights, training gear and meals will be covered for the duration of this camp, and further details will be communicated to the selected players in the coming weeks.


Preparation

Over the next four weeks, it is expected that al players are working close with the local State Strength & Conditioning Coach.


Combined Affiliated States (CAS) U18s Schoolboys

From this process and match, 20 players will then be selected to represent U18s Combined Affiliated States (CAS) Schoolboys at the ASSRL Championships held at Redcliffe from 1 July to 8 July.

Players chosen to represent this CAS team will be required to pay a subsidy with more detail to be provided by their actual State Governing Body.

The 2026 NRL NT Territory Junior Championships delivered an outstanding showcase of emerging rugby league talent, with the Northern Territory’s best Under 16 players taking centre stage at TRL Stadium, Darwin. Across a full day of high-quality competition, teams representing Darwin City, Southern Heat, Katherine and Gove United competed with intensity, skill and pride, highlighting the continued growth and strength of rugby league pathways across the Territory. The boys competition opened with a dominant performance from Gove United, setting the tone early with a 30–4 victory over Darwin City. Southern Heat responded strongly in Game 3, defeating Darwin City 16–8 in a disciplined and physical contest. In the girls division, Southern Heat showcased their class with a 16–0 win over Darwin City in Game 2, underlining the continued rise in female participation and performance standards across the Northern Territory.

As a key component of the NRL NT Pathways system, the RISE Program provides aspiring young players with access to a high-quality, structured development environment focused on building strong foundations both on and off the field. Taking place on Friday 17 April from 7:30am to 8:30am at Darwin Airport Resort, this free session provides a unique opportunity for coaches, players, volunteers and community leaders to gain direct insights from one of the NRL’s high-performance environments. Learn from the Elite Facilitated by the NRL Dolphins coaching staff, the masterclass will explore the key principles that underpin success at the highest level of rugby league, with a strong focus on practical application within community settings. Taking place at TRL Stadium on Monday 13 April from 5:30pm to 7:00pm , this free session will bring together club leaders, volunteers, coaches and administrators for an opportunity to learn, connect and grow. Facilitated by the NRL Dolphins , Club Connect will provide direct insights from an elite NRL environment, with a focus on building sustainable, high-performing community clubs both on and off the field. Session Focus Areas Participants will gain valuable knowledge and practical tools across key areas critical to club success, including: Well-being: Supporting players, volunteers and club environments to create safe, inclusive and positive experiences Sponsorship Partnerships: Building and maintaining meaningful relationships with local partners Social Media Management: Enhancing club visibility, engagement and communication through digital platforms Strengthening Our Game Club Connect forms part of NRL NT’s ongoing commitment to building capability across affiliated clubs and ensuring strong, connected communities through rugby league. The Northern Territory Rugby League Referees Association (NTRLRA) is officially launching the 2026 refereeing season with a Season Kick-Off Training and Information Session, bringing together new and returning match officials for a morning of learning, development, and connection. Referees play a vital role in the success of rugby league across the Northern Territory. From junior competitions through to senior matches, referees ensure the game is played in a safe, fair, and enjoyable environment for players, coaches, and supporters. This session provides an excellent opportunity for current referees to refresh their knowledge ahead of the upcoming season, while also welcoming new referees who are interested in getting involved in the game. Sport, Recreation and Strategic Infrastructure is once again partnering with Matrix on Board to deliver two practical governance workshops for Peak Sporting Bodies and their affiliated clubs across the Northern Territory. These sessions are designed to strengthen the knowledge and confidence of committee members and board directors by providing clear, practical guidance on the key responsibilities involved in sporting governance. The Foundations of Governance workshops will cover a range of important topics, including legal duties of committee members, roles and responsibilities, understanding constitutions, association compliance requirements, running useful meetings, committee HR responsibilities, and financial oversight and obligations. These are all essential areas for clubs and peak bodies committed to strong leadership, sound decision-making, and long-term sustainability.  This training is aimed at sporting club committee members and Peak Body board directors, providing an excellent opportunity for current and emerging leaders to build their governance capability in a supportive learning environment. Importantly, the workshops are funded through the NT Department of People, Sport and Culture, with no fee to attend.
