Creating real change and healthy lifestyles for Tennant Creek and the Barkly.

NRL NT in partnership with Touch Football NT is proud to acknowledge our incredible Tennant Creek Volunteer Working Group, led by Tamara Law and Steve Sutton, who are stepping up to drive renewed community spirit, local leadership, and a united passion for growing Touch Football, League Tag and Rugby League across the Barkly region.

Their dedication and commitment will be the backbone of our progress as we work together to create a long-term, inclusive, community-driven sports program for Tennant Creek and surrounding communities.

“Together, we’re committed to building safe, positive and united pathways for our community. Through sport and partnership, we are creating real change and healthy lifestyles for Tennant Creek and the Barkly.”

Thank you, Tamara and Steve, your leadership is helping create a stronger future, closer to home.

A very Special Shoutout to Isadora Roberts, Regional Youth Programs Coordinator - Barkly Office of Youth Affairs Department of People, Sport and Culture who has been an amazing advocate for her community in bring this initiative to light.

A Message from Tamara & Steve – Tennant Creek Volunteer Working Group Leads

Hey everyone, Tamara and Steve here.

We are working to kick-start Rugby League back in Tennant Creek and right across the Barkly. League has come and gone throughout the years, and we want to see it come back alive and stay long after we’ve moved on.

Our young people deserve more sporting choices and more adults who are willing to step up, support them, and help create positive pathways. Sport teaches teamwork, respect, discipline, and healthy competition. These are skills that change lives.

We’re starting with Touch Footy and League Tag, great ways to promote movement, speed, endurance and showcase the natural talent already strong throughout the Barkly. These formats help fine-tune skills and confidence and build a foundation for those who want to progress into playing Rugby League and take part in bigger carnivals and competitions across the NT.

You might not be old enough to play AFL…
but you are old enough to play League with us!

We Need You – Local Volunteers, Leaders & Helpers

To build something strong and sustainable, we need locals on the ground who want to make a positive difference.

We’re looking for people willing to help with:

  • Treasurer & secretary roles
  • Coaches & managers
  • Officials & game-day helpers
  • Anyone keen to simply “have a go” and be part of building something meaningful

Your involvement, big or small will help build a safer, healthier and more united community through sport.

Why This Matters for the Barkly

This local volunteer leadership feeds directly into the broader Barkly Community Rugby League & Touch Football Engagement Project, led by NRL NT in partnership with Touch Football NT and community stakeholders.

This region deserves accessible, inclusive sport that is locally driven, long-term and sustainable, built by the community, for the community.

Get Involved

If you’d like to volunteer, play, coach, or simply stay updated, keep an eye on NRL NT channels, community registration and forum dates will be announced shortly.

Together, we’re rebuilding Rugby League in the Barkly, stronger, safer and here to stay.
