Building Futures, Closer to Home

Rugby league is about more than just the game it’s about connection, confidence, and community. That spirit is coming to life in the Barkly through Touch, Tag & Tackle family sessions at Purkiss Reserve, creating a welcoming space for people of all ages to get involved.

These Thursday night sessions are designed to be inclusive, relaxed, and family-friendly, offering a chance for kids, parents, and community members to come together, get active, and enjoy rugby league in its many forms touch, tag, and tackle at a level that suits everyone.

A Family-First Approach

The focus is simple:

  • Get kids moving and having fun
  • Support families to participate together
  • Create a safe, positive introduction to rugby league
  • Build familiarity and confidence with the game

Whether it’s a first pass, a quick game of touch, or simply being part of the atmosphere, these sessions are about participation over performance and connection over competition.

Laying the Foundations for the Future

Touch, Tag & Tackle sessions play a vital role in rebuilding a sustainable rugby league footprint in the Barkly. They provide an accessible starting point for children and families, while helping identify local leaders, volunteers, and future coaches who want to help shape what comes next.

Importantly, they reflect a long-term vision:

  • Strong local involvement
  • Community-led growth
  • Clear pathways for juniors over time
  • Ongoing support from NRL NT and Touch Football NT

Everyone Is Welcome

No experience is needed. No registrations required to get started. Just turn up, join in, and be part of something growing.

These sessions represent the first steps in bringing rugby league back to the Barkly, built the right way — from the ground up, with families and community at the centre.

Because when sport is built locally, futures are built closer to home.
