Honouring the 2025 NRL NT Life Members Inductees

Tony Crowe • September 2, 2025

Life Membership recognises individuals whose service to rugby league has been both extraordinary and enduring.

NRL Northern Territory is proud to announce and celebrate the induction of three outstanding contributors into Life Membership,  the highest honour our game can bestow. In 2025, we welcome Chuck Norris, Craig Singleton, and Gordon Hounslow into this distinguished group, recognising their decades of service, leadership, and passion for rugby league in the Territory.

The awards were formally presented by Laurie Zio – Assistant Minister for People, Sports and Culture and MLA Member for Fannie Bay, adding further significance to this milestone occasion.

Chuck Norris – Palmerston Raiders RLFC

Chuck Norris’ name has been synonymous with rugby league in the Territory for more than three decades. Since making his A Grade debut as a 15-year-old in 1999, Chuck has gone on to play over 300 senior games across 33 consecutive years.

His achievements include:

Representing the Northern Territory at both junior and senior levels.

Winning the Frank Johnson Medal in 2008.

Coaching junior and senior Raiders teams, including leading the U16s to a premiership in 2024.

Serving as a Life Member and committee member of the Palmerston Raiders, mentoring the next generation.

Beyond statistics, Chuck’s leadership, resilience, and commitment to mentoring players have left a generational impact on the Territory rugby league community.

Craig Singleton – Brothers Rugby League Club Darwin

With more than 25 years of service to Brothers RLFC, Craig Singleton has worn almost every hat in the game – player, captain, coach, volunteer, official, and committee member.

Key contributions include:

Captaining Brothers to an A Grade Premiership in 2004.

Coaching juniors from 2005–2014, winning four premierships.

Serving on the Brothers Committee for 20 years, including as Vice President since 2014.

Supporting countless game days as field manager, referee, and timekeeper.

Mentoring players through Brothers’ well-being camps and interstate club programs.

Inducted as a Brothers Life Member in 2015, Craig continues to dedicate his time and energy to the success of Brothers RLFC and the development of rugby league across the Territory

Gordon Hounslow – Northern Sharks RLFC

Few names resonate more strongly with the Northern Sharks than Gordon Hounslow. From starting as a ball boy in 1976 to serving as club President for the past seven years, Gordon’s contribution spans nearly five decades.

Highlights of Gordon’s service include:

Playing for the Sharks at junior and senior level.

Serving on the committee for over 20 years, including seven as President.

Providing financial support to save the club from exclusion in 2015 and steering it into financial stability.

Sponsoring the Sharks for more than 20 years.

Volunteering tirelessly on game days – from ground management to fundraising.

Supporting players with employment opportunities and mentoring.

Awarded Sharks Life Membership in 2012, Gordon remains the heart of the club, respected across the Territory for his leadership and unwavering commitment
