Phins Up on Elcho Island
A Warm Welcome to Our Newest Junior Rugby League Club in the NT

NRL Northern Territory is proud to announce the establishment of our newest junior rugby league club, based on Elcho Island (Galiwin’ku), located around 520km north-east of Darwin. This exciting development reflects the continued growth of rugby league across the Territory and the power of sport to bring communities together.
The new club has already begun laying the foundations with strong support from the local school and community leaders lead by Callan Collins who is s a mad Canberra Raiders supporter, passionate and committed to providing opportunities for young people to stay active, healthy, and engaged through rugby league is inspiring.

We are delighted to confirm that this club will make its first official appearance at the 2025 Tamboran Resources Top End Cup in Katherine on October 10th & 11th. Entering a team in the Under 10 age group, this will be their debut outing wearing their new colours and representing their proud community on the Territory stage.
The Tamboran Resources Top End Cup has become a highlight on the junior rugby league calendar, bringing together teams from across Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine, Kununurra, and beyond. The addition of our newest junior club ensures that this year’s event will be bigger, more inclusive, and more exciting than ever.
NRL NT General Manager, Tony Crowe, said the announcement is another milestone for the code in the Territory:
“This new club shows the strength and reach of our game, and we’re thrilled to welcome them into the NRL NT family. Their debut at the Tamboran Resources Top End Cup will be a special moment, not only for their players and families, but for our whole rugby league community.”

We look forward to seeing them take the field for the very first time and know they will be warmly embraced by the wider rugby league family at the 2025 Tamboran Resources Top End Cup in Katherine.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue building towards a fantastic weekend of footy in October.

To put the distance into perspective, it takes approximately 1 hour 20 minutes by direct flight from Darwin to Elcho Island, while the sea journey covers around 450km, depending on route. This demonstrates the incredible commitment of the Elcho Island community in joining our game and highlights rugby league’s reach into some of the most remote parts of the Northern Territory.

We do apologise for the quality of the images; however, we are sure you appreciate everyone's overall enthusiasm to share this exciting news.
